本片讲述文艺复兴时期，意大利女画家阿特米西亚（瓦伦蒂娜 ;切威 Valentina Cervi饰）青年时代的凄美爱情故事。清秀美丽的阿特米西亚出生于艺术世家，父亲奥拉其奥（米歇尔t;塞罗 Michel Serrault饰）在意大利已是很有名望的画家。然而在艺术方面天赋异禀的阿特米西亚，无视那些清规戒律，从而不能进入美术学院。可这并没有阻碍她对绘画的执着追求，仍然狂野热烈的创作着。直到她遇见画家阿格斯提诺 bull;塔西（米基 ;马诺洛维克 Miki Manojlovi ;饰），她闯入画室把画好的男性L体给他看。塔西被她的勇气与美貌所吸引，更对她不凡的天赋所震撼。自然地，两人坠入爱河。然而这炽热迅猛的爱情却被她的父亲阻挠，把塔西告上法庭。悲剧上演 影片荣获1998年金球奖最佳外语片提名。
